The Raleigh Chopper

We buy and sell Raleigh Choppers, so if you have one for sale get in touch.

A Bit of history on the The Raleigh Chopper

The Chopper was patented in 1967 by Raleigh for the American youth market. The Chopper was introduced at American trade shows in January 1969 & first shipments to North American dealers in June 1969. It is introduced in the UK in 1970. The bike featured a 3-speed, 5-speed, and single-speed Sturmey Archer gear hub, selected using a frame-mounted console gear lever — one of its "cool" features. Other features that appealed to the youth market were the unusual frame, long padded highback seat, sprung seat at the back, high-rise (ape hanger) handlebars, 'bobbed' mudguards (fenders) and differently sized front (16") and rear (20") wheels. The rear hoop above the seat resembled a motorcycle 'sissy bar'. Even the kickstand was designed to give the stationary bicycle a lean reminiscent of a parked motorcycle.[9] Tyres were wider than usual for the time, with a chunky tread on the rear wheel, featuring a red line around the sidewall. The price was from approximately £32 for a standard Chopper to £55 for the deluxe.

The Oldest Original Pair Of Levi's

In the spring of 1998 four buddies from North San Diego county were exploring an abondoned silver mine in the Mojave desert. They were hundreds of feet below the ground and ironically they struck GOLD! What they later learned they had found in a deep offshoot tunnel was the oldest original pair of Levi's blue jeans from the very first production run of the "501" line that exist on the earth today!

They sold for $60000 USD on Ebay.

I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet

I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet was a boutique which achieved fame in 1960s Swinging London by promoting antique military uniforms as fashion items.

I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet was opened by Ian Fisk and John Paul at 293 Portobello Road, Notting Hill, London, in 1966. Among customers of that store were Jimi Hendrix, who purchased a braided military coat featured in memorable photographs, as well as Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, The Beatles and The Who.

Peter Blake, the artist who designed The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, said that he and Paul McCartney got the idea for the sleeve while they were walking together past the shop.

In 1966 a song entitled "I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet" was recorded by Peter Fenton and The New Vaudeville Band.

In the summer of 1967 Fisk and Paul dissolved their partnership. Fisk took sole ownership of the premises, which became the Injun Dog head-shop (subtitled Once I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet).

Paul and new partner Ian Richardson, managing director David Morgan and manager Robert Orbach opened a new branch of Kitchener's in Foubert's Place, selling militaria and Swinging London novelty items.

In 1968 Paul added two more Kitchener's outlets, in Carnaby Street and Wardour Street, and soon expanded to sites in Piccadilly Circus and the Kings Road (where the shop was named I Was Lord Kitchener's Thing).

The Kitchener's outlet in Carnaby Street closed it doors in 1977, but is still remembered as an important Swinging Sixties boutique. The store is currently the Hideout clothing shop.

New Lambretta

Not To be left out, Lambretta also have a new scooter out.

Once again it looks OK,

I think that new ridders to the scooter scene will like it.

New Vespa

Neco Italy have a new Vespa look alike.

The lines are clearly Vespa old- style ” as technology and the construction technique , although Chinese is the modern type .

Available in two engine capacities, the new vehicle uses some solutions “Care “on all Vespa views to date : design aparte , even the single arm front suspension with links to connecting rod is loosely based production of the popular brands of Piaggio Group.

Looks nice, and has a real vintage feel. I can see this scooter working well for a new rider.
